Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Unit

The Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) unit at Stellenbosch University houses a Bruker 400 and a triple resonance 600MHz NMR spectrometer with bespoke probes and experiments available for almost any application. The unit also has a Circular Dichroism-Fluorescence Spectropolarimeter with high resolution/sensitivity.
OUR TECHNIQUES EXPLAINED

NMR

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) is a powerful analytical technique that uses strong magnetic fields and radiofrequency pulses to probe the magnetic properties of atomic nuclei, providing detailed information about molecular structure, chemical composition, and dynamics. By detecting how nuclei respond when their magnetic alignment is disturbed, NMR can determine molecular connectivity, identify unknown compounds, analyze protein structures, and monitor chemical reactions in real-time, making it an essential tool in chemistry, biochemistry, materials science.
