Flow Cytometry_BD FACSMelody™ Cell Sorter

Lab:
Description:

Cell Sorter Flow Cytometers applies the principles of flow cytometry in an innovative technology designed to extract cells of interest from a heterogenous suspension and retain it separately for further analyses. The application of cell sorting involves high-voltage deflection plates that directs passing charged droplets (which contains the cells/particles of interest) into the appropriate collection tube.

Model:

BD FACSMelody™ Cell Sorter

Location:
Stellenbosch University main campus (BSL2 Laboratory)
Functions:

The BD FACSMelody™ Performance characteristics:

  • 9 channel, 3-laser instrument, 4-way sorting
  • 3-lasers set up with 9 fluorescent channels of detection

Laser and bandpass configuration information with examples of appropriate fluorochromes: BD FACSMelody™ Configuration

  • Droplet sorting at 34 000 events per second
  • Delivers a high degree of purity and yield
  • Multi sample collection tubes (6-, 24-, 48-, 96- and 384-well plates, 96-well PCR tray, microscope slide)
  • Software: BD FACSChorus™ software
  • Automated set up, optimization and monitoring of the droplet breakoff and sort streams
  • Automated drop delay measurement using BD BD FACS™ Accudrop beads
  • Apart from using the BDFACSMelody as a cell sorter, it can also be used as a conventional flow cytometer.
Purpose:

The BD FACSMelody™ can be used for sorting from any type of heterogenous suspension (human cells to microorganism) for downstream culturing or detailed molecular, genetic and protein analyses.
